This is one of two old cards that I am putting up, that a good friend sent to me a few years ago because they knew I liked this type of thing. They seem old, although it is possible they are not as old as they appear. I don’t really know. I was interested in finding out more about them, but my searches online haven’t come up with much yet.
It consists of two paintings of different parts of the scene, each done on two separate stiff pieces, of what I think is clear acetate. When the card is opened, there is a folded paper section inside that pops out a bit behind the front opening where the first painting is. The second painting is suspended half way between the two. A diffused light comes through the back of the paper fold-out, giving a 3-D effect to the scene. The card was made in Paris, France for Marcel Schurman & Co.
